GLOWACON CONFERENCES AND EVENTS

GLOWACON can best be described as a Network of Networks. In its first year of existence, GLOWACON has organized so far the following events

  • Global GLOWACON Conference to launch GLOWACON, Brussels, March 2024
  • Regional GLOWACON Conference Asia, Singapore, June 2024 - co-organised with the Singapore Ministry of Health and the European Commission
  • Regional GLOWACON Conference Africa, Addis Ababa, November 2024 – co-organised with the African Centre of Disease Control (African CDC) and the European Commisson
  • A further Regional Conference for Latin America was held in May in Panama City and is organized jointly between PAHO, the Pan-American Health Organisation and branch of the WHO and the European Commission

In addition, GLOWACON was featured prominently at the last World Water Forum in Bali, in May 2024. The presence at the EXPO Osaka further strengthened the public-private partnerships promoted by GLOWACON.

GLOWACON FUNDERS’ FORUM

In order to optimize the financial support to the different WES activities and avoid also redundancies, GLOWACON has united a powerful Funders’ Forum including i.a. the European Commission, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the African Development and donor organisation from philanthropy, e.g. the Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, the Global Fund and others.

GLOWACON EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVITIES FOR AVIATION

Following a first test in 2024 on SARS-CoV.2 In 2024, GLOWACON run also a first proof of concept on wastewater surveillance on aviation. This approach explores the technical and practical feasibility of global network of sentinel sites on aviation. In a first test in 2024, GLOWACON collaborated with IATA and some 30 international airports to explore the technical feasibility of such a surveillance approach. The confidential results, part of which are currently prepared for publication, were impressive.
